Let’s talk mirror signage for weddings and events!

I get asks A LOT of questions about mirror signage but one of the most common questions I get is “where do I get a mirror?” Since I do not provide mirrors, I have come across some amazing mirror finds by my clients! What’s great about providing your own mirror is that it can truly be your style for both the day of your event and afterwards!

What do I mean by afterwards?? Well lettering on mirrors can actually come off! Since the surface of the mirror isn’t porous, it can always be scraped off with a razor blade and depending on what paint was used, the lettering can even come off with a paper towel wipe down of acetone nail polish remover. I find that a combo of both works well and once that’s all removed, mirror cleaner like Windex is a great final step. So you can get a mirror that works for your event AND in your home after the event and guests would never know there was ever lettering on it.

Since you can use the mirror again, you can buy a mirror that isn’t just a one time use. Since I’m such a bargain hunter, I still want you to know all the secrets about finding a show stopping mirror without paying a price that makes your head spin.

Story time! For our wedding, I wanted to create our own mirror seating chart. It somehow worked out that my cousin was cleaning out her attic and found our Nana’s old bedroom dresser mirror. My husband and I were going to be moving into our first apartment after our wedding so she texted me a picture and asked if I wanted it. I did, but not for our apartment…I had something else in mid- our wedding! That is what sparked my idea of creating the mirror seating chart. It was a very dark brown stain so I did a quick white wash of Behr primer and paint in one that my dad had laying around. I made some areas more opaque and others I wanted the dark stain to show through a bit to give it an old meets new feel. It came out exactly how I envisioned and would fit perfectly in our venue that was slightly rustic with stone and wood accents but with bright and natural light pouring in on the warm white walls. Using this mirror also made a part of my Nana there with us on our wedding day so it was extra special.

So where should you get your mirror? I have a few options that guarantee a perfect mirror for your event!

  1. Use an old mirror from your family/home! This is what I did and as mentioned above, it really made it feel meaningful. On a day that is so filled with happy emotions, using a mirror from a family member or home adds a personal touch that can’t be replicated any other way.
  2. Shop at flea markets, antique stores, or garage sales! One bride found a stunning mirror for a welcome sign that was under $40 at a garage sale and I kept saying ‘no you didn’t’ because I couldn’t believe how amazing of a mirror it was! It may take a little bit more time to find but you’re bound to find a bargain and also something old!
  3. When in doubt, shop in store at Home Goods, TJ Maxx, etc! Most of the mirrors that my brides get for their big seating charts come from these type of stores. They find full length mirrors larger than me (I’m 5’1″) and they’re all under $100. Again- these can be used AGAIN so they find mirrors that they want in their closet or their living room as an accent piece and they’re always beautiful!

Mirror sings aren’t going anywhere and since there is no shortage of uniquely beautiful mirrors, get hunting!
