Spoiler Alert! I’m pregnant.

We had a planned trip to Disney World with our friends and their children in November to enjoy some Christmas cheer before the real Christmas crowds flock to Disney. Steve and I found out we were pregnant in October so during our trip I was still in my first trimester and was very nervous about the whole drink and food situation since the idea of drinks (even water) and food was nauseating. Oddly enough, my best friend who we went with is also pregnant and about a month ahead of me. So we were slightly in the same boat!

Since I am now back from Disney and did the full Disney World experience of every park, I am here to bring whatever knowledge I gained from the one time I went when I was pregnant and in my first trimester.

Another Spoiler Alert! I am going again in February to run in the runDisney Princess Half Marathon so I will report back about what’s it’s like being pregnant in Disney World during your second trimester! Ok, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I have been having daily migraines or really bad headaches along with all day nausea so I made sure to bring some Tylenol for the trip and lots of snacks for our travel day. I haven’t been taking Tylenol but I figured for the 4 days we would be in the parks it may be needed rather than trying to just battle through it like I do every other day. Highly recommend bringing some!

We landed on Friday late morning, rented a car, and headed straight to Animal Kingdom. We rented a house all together off property so it was not ready until about 5pm that day. We planned to eat breakfast at the house every day so most of the meals we ate at the park were snacks, lunch, and/or dinner depending on the nap schedules.

Animal Kingdom

When we got to Animal Kingdom, it was packed. And I mean PACKED. Pre-Covid, holiday week type of crowds and it was not a holiday week. Food is now having to be mobile ordered only at almost every food location that offers it and the return times for food was about 2 hours away and everyone needed food in them asap, not in 2 hours. We stumbled upon a few carts and grab and go places (not actual quick service locations) and we picked up some mickey pretzels (more on those later) from the Harambe Fruit Market  and these pita wraps from Kusafiri Coffee Shop & Bakery both in Africa. They had a single register outside and there was no line so we gave it a shot and it was great! The pita wrap is called the Marinated Chicken Flatbread and there was a lot of spice to it so I did only eat some of the sandwhich with the chicken in it and then gave the rest of the chicken to my husband while I at the rest of the pita/flatbread with the greens on it. It was really good but the spcies started to upset my stomach a bit so I didn’t want to over do it.

I got a reusable 50th anniversary popcorn bucket as well for us all to share because you can never have enough Disney World popcorn! That settled very nicely with my stomach as well just nibbling it here and there. That’s about all we ate at Animal Kingdom that day. We did not stay long at all and wound up heading to the house and picked up some food to go from a restaurant close to the house on our way back.

Hollywood Studios

Our second day we did Hollywood studios. I was terrible at taking photos this day. Disney World is a lot more hectic with kids and I only ever used my phone for the My Disney Experience app. I did get a coke slushee this day and the cast member even made it special to add a Mickey on top! She didn’t do that for the people in front of me or behind me so yes, it was very special to me! We ordered some quick, simple meals for lunch from the ABC Commissary. I got the Mediterranean salad which comes with flatbread and hummus and it was soo delicious! The rest of the day I basically snacked on either popcorn or Mickey pretzels. No lie, I think I got at least 2 or 3 Mickey pretzels every single day at Disney World. It was the best food for nausea and just keeping something simple in your stomach.

Magic Kingdom

The third day at Disney was Magic Kingdom and that seemed like a whirl wind of a day. We decided we’d try Genie+ that day and it was just a lot to manage when having to schedule rides, mobile ordering, children needing snacks or naps, the crowds, and everything else. I of course ate Mickey pretzels (literally the first thing I got when we entered the park) and a churro.  We decided we’d do snacks that day instead of lunch because we’d eat some lunch back at the house. So we opted to get some dole whip (which by the way is a gift from the heavans for people who can’t have dairy like me!) and everyone got an order of corn dog nuggets and fried from Casey’s Corner. A couple of classics in the most magical place on Earth. I split my corn dog nuggets with my husband since I didn’t know how they would settle and they didn’t bother me much but I’m glad I didn’t over do it.

We went back to the house for the kids to take naps and we decided to go back to the park around 6pm for 1 ride on Jungle Cruise since we had a Genie+ Lighening Lane for it and then watch the fireworks. It wound up being a special event for the new Christmas party that night so all the food places closed at 8pm. I had to mobile order from a choice of only 2 places still open for that time and we chose Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe because they had a few options for everyone. I just got a burger with lettuce and tomatoe and opted for cuties instead of fries.

Epcot

Our last park day, was Epcot and it was of course the main food day out of all the days in Disney World. We were there while the Wine and Food Festival was still going on so while I was bummed I wouldn’t be able to have fun drinks (or my favorite frozen marg!) I was excited that there was a large range of food that did not have to mobile ordered. I had been feeling good with things we were eating throughout the week so I felt that I could keep things going and not be too adventurous but also not be too cautious about keeping food plain.

I started the day off with the Kālua Pork Slider from Hawaii and like many reviews said, this one was amazing and soo delicious.

We always start in Mexico so since I couldn’t get my favorite frozen classic margarita, I asked what type of non alcoholic drinks they had. They only had one fruit punch type of drink so I asked to try it. It came in a kiddie cup but I asked if they could put it in a normal margarita cup instead and they allowed it LOL. It was actually a slushee drink that tasted kind of like a strawberry banana smoothie so it was very yummy and refreshing without being too sweet!

We passed Kenya while walking around world showcase and we all tried the Kenyan Coffee Barbecue Beef Tenderloin. Oh my gosh, this was probably the surprise of the day! I hadn’t heard anyone really talking about this and it was so good!

Besides margaritas the one place my husband and I were telling everyone we needed to go to was Japan for some Teriyaki Chicken Buns. We got these a couple years back and still dream about them. I am so glad they are a fan favorite and have been coming back to the festival every year! I only got one because I didn’t want to overdo it but you could easily eat a few of these babies!

For some treats, I enjoyed a hot waffle with chocolate sauce from Belgium and some strawberry sorbet in a cone from France! Anything frozen like sorbet or dole whips are just magical for pregnancy nausea!

Our Last Day

While i feel like I ate somewhat normal, I was still cautious about what I was choosing. I was thankful that I could manage my nausea every day in some way even if it was thanks to a Mickey pretzel! I only needed to take a sitting break a few times to get some bites of food in to stop dizziness and that was it. Even though I was exhausted, I was thankful my nausea wasn’t debilitating. The last day we were there when we were catching our flight home, it became debilitating and was very bad. I actually bought a Mickey pretzel before leaving Epcot the night before to save just incase I needed on the plane and I am glad I did. Nothing helped that day so once again, I am glad I felt that way on our last day not in a park rather than it ruining our time in a park!

I will report back with how everything goes in February!
